Pet Allergy

Pet allergy is a common type of allergy found in many houses.  People who have pet allergy know when an animal is near just by their symptoms.  Headache, sneezing and throat scratching are always present and there seems to be no way of feeling better without going to another place.

Many people think that the problem is the fur, but it isn’t..  It’s dander and secretions what triggers the allergies.  The secretions can easily be found on the pet’s saliva and urine.  Of course, pets tend to lick their body and so, the allergens are transmitted.  Then these allergens reach us via the nose, eyes and respiration.

Not all pet allergies are the same.  You have probably noticed that there are people that just seem devastated by the allergies, while others just seem to sneeze once in a while.  These reactions depend greatly on your immune system, and let’s also keep in mind that the allergy doesn’t necessarily appear quickly.  It can take up to 8 hours for it to show in your body!

Sometimes pet allergy can be manifested in places where there are no animals!  This happens because the dander allergens are sticky and easy to transport from one place to another.  That’s why it is very important to always wash our hands and face after passing some time with our pets.

If you think that you are allergic to pets, it is advisable that you consult a pet allergy specialist for instructions on being allergy-free.  Sometimes the only option is to find your pet another home, so consider it an option (a sad option), but in other cases it just takes an extra care, worth it to stay with your beloved animal.
