Bird allergy appear as a reaction to feather dander and bird droppings.  This animal allergy is not as common as others such as dog allergy or cat allergy according to global statistics

The people who suffer more from this type of allergy are those who come in close contact with birds like farm workers, zoo workers and people who keep birds at home.  The allergic reaction appears as an effort of the immune system to defend your body, the weakest your immune system is, the more sever the symptoms will appear.

It is important to indicate that any allergy should be treated, complications to allergy – even bird allergy can have serious consequences.

Symptoms of bird allergy

The symptoms of bird allergy can be soft or severe.  Among the soft symptoms we have watery eyes, sneezing, sore throat, stuffy nose, hives, coughing, itchy eyes, black circles around the eyes and allergic shiners.

The severe symptoms include a reduction of your lung capacity, and tightening of the throat.  These symptoms when get complicated can pose a threat to your life.

To avoid having bird allergy the best option is common sense: stay away from birds. And if the symptoms have already appeared you can treat the allergy.  Normally it disappears on its own, but if it doesn’t, a doctor can help you find the proper treatment.

Medications for bird allergy include oral antihistamines, decongestants and corticosteroids.  All of these must first be prescribed and the treatment must be supervised by the physician.

Other option is to have allergy shots, a treatment designed to boost the immune system and reduce the allergy symptoms.
