Allergy to Dog

The allergy to dog is one of the most common types of animal allergies in homes.  Many people blame the fur of the dog, when in fact is has more to do with the secretions.

You realize something is wrong when you notice your watery eyes, runny nose and constant sneezing.  These are all the biggest signs of allergy and if the dog is yours, you might have a big problem.

The allergy to dog is caused by two allergens, one is called Can f1.  This allergen is found in saliva. The other one is “dog albumin” and it is a protein found in the blood.  The problem comes when the dog licks himself, thus spreading the allergen to other parts of the body.  This is why bathing your dog regularly can help reducing the effect of the allergens.

The effects of the allergy to dog depend on our immune system.  The weaker it is the more severe the symptoms will be.  Recent studies show that children, who are exposed to dogs with allergens at a young age, develop a tolerance to these allergens.  This is because their immune system gets strengthened thanks to endotoxin, a protein that stimulates the immune system.  But only if the person has not developed asthma or allergies before.

Dog allergy can even be present on people who don’t own pets.  This happens because the allergens are easily carried from one place to another.  In these cases the allergens effects can quickly be diminished.

If you have a pet though, you should take the steps necessary to diminish the allergy symptoms.  These include, bathing your dog regularly, cleaning the house thoroughly, wiping the dog with a wet towel daily, restricting the dog from parts of the house, and other steps that an allergy expert might recommend.
